| I've searched on tickets but nobody on this forum has the same or near similar situation as I do. I got my first ticket for careless driving. I guess I was wrong to avoid running over road kill and tire shreads. A cop apparently followed me and saw me cross the yellow line (mine was passable if that matters) 4 times. It was 1:30ish am and no cars in sight so I thought it would be safe to drive around the dead animals. This road is a single lane two-way road. I only crossed the line twice but he said to me he saw me do it a dozen times but wrote 4x on the ticket. He also said on the ticket it was a double yellow line but it was actually a passable yellow line. I wasn't even speeding :( I was actually 10 below (40 in 50) the speed limit to avoid damage if an animal pops out. I just saw the ticket and it's 3 points $195 for careless driving. which is pretty dumb for what I did. I'll admit that crossing the yellow line is bad but it was to avoid hitting something. The cop was a prick as well, he's young like 25 and gave me so many test to see if I was drinking (which I wasn't). My question is, do I need a lawyer for this trial? I am going to fight it but not sure if I can do it alone. I talked to other close family friend cops and said it was a stupid ticket. Unfortunately, it was a different county than my own. Second question, can a cop pull you over in a different county than they belong in? I was pulled over in my county but the cop was from the neighbooring county where I believe I have comitted the "crime". I just want to keep my record clean and avoiding insurance raises. I'll pay for court fees and ticket fines but points is a no-no.
