On the otherhand, I think many people want instant gratification of knowing their purchase is being shipped out (potentially) the same day the order is placed and paid for. Having to wait several days (possibly even a week) for a check to arrive at the vendor, then waiting for the check to clear, and then having the order shipped is something that most people don't want to do.
