If it is windy, driving in the direction of the wind at the exact same speed as the wind will minimize hail velocity...but it will also keep you in the hailstorm.

Given your scenario of no cover to be found (I grew up in South Dakota so I know what you're talking about) I would probably just curse a lot and keep driving. Any chance for cover I would take though, and if the storm is coming at me in a way I could see, I would change course to get me out of it, speeding up if I thought it best.
