After all, BMW's and Porsche 911's use MacPherson struts up front, which is not the most sophisticated setup. Yet their handling is pretty good. FWIW, I consider the handling of my M5 to be "better" than my Z. Feels more stable through corners, and more confidence-inspiring. Also, in a comparison test between the C4 vette and the Z, Car and Driver found that the Vette was more neutral, and ended up a second per lap faster than the Z. And the Vette has leaf springs.
