Spee and Kenny may not be responding to the wording or implications in that post specifically, but instead to what they've heard and read themselves. I know that at ZCon I heard from several sources that Ash's fan gave him some trouble. I suspect they're drawing from that as well. Whether or not that was really the case, I don't know for sure, since I didn't hear one way or the other from Ash himself, but I certainly heard it enough times from other sources. And to get a minor side point straight because I'm tired of it being an issue, "ZCon" is short for "Z Convention", which would mean it only has one "n". That is all.
