the the intense thermal extremes of insulators in our application, nor would I bet one would ever be developed. But yes, in theory you could have it both ways. I've never considered the effect of insulating the manifold after shutdown, but I wouldn't think it would make that big a difference esp if the standard common sence (or turbo timer) is used when shutting down. P.S. Not sure what internal coating you are talking about, my manifolds are swain coated externally and that is supposed to work very well. The only place I used wrap was on the side of the compressor inlet closest to the manifold in an attempt to prevent extra heat from soaking the intake charge.
