Message that article presented a theory as to why the OEM system was designed the way it is. while it certainly makes sense that the system was designed the way it was for optimal flow characteristics in very confined and restrictive space limitations, that doesn't necessarily exclude the possibility that other factors (such as cross-flow design) were taken into consideration. the only way to know that for sure would be to ask the Nissan engineers who originally designed it. until that is done, it's nothing more than conjecture from both sides of the argument.
