So I'm driving in Sunnyvale, CA to go look at some BMWs for my father and I'm at a stoplight. An S4 makes a left fromt the cross street in my direction and I notice it as it drives away. I notice and get back to driving. So I keep driving and I guess every one clears the road for the S4 and me at the next stop light. I look over and see this guy looking at my car (probably trying to figure out if it is a TT). So I smile and I hear his turbos spool quickly at the green. So I just start driving and we get to another stop light. Now I look over and he's looking at my car again. He's a late 30's, early 40's kinda guy, beard and all. All of a sudden I see this chubby 10 year old perched on the passenger seat, peering at me with a big smile on his face, same as his old man. I smile back and look forward. The light turns green and he starts to go! I hear a little slip, turbo spool, and then the Quattro holding all fours of the S4 for a launch. The thought of racing him crossed my mind but I wasn't expecting him to do it with his kid in the car. So he jumps about two cars as I'm just sitting, letting out the clutch and then I apply the throttle in my (Stock) TT. So he has this two car length head start and Quattro and I modulate the clutch with a tiny chirp from the rear and shift at about 5500rpm. I Go through first and start to reel him in, he shifts and so did I (since I wasn't ready for all this, I guess I shifted prematurely because of peer pressure, hehe) through second I'm inching on him and at the shift to third there is about half a car between us and there are cars stopped at a light half a block away. So we both start to brake (just as I was recovering and about to have the turbos kick in!) and stop. At the next stop light I smiled and said nice Quattro, he smiled and his kid was in awe, probably from being in a race. I guess he thought his dad beat a super car (the Z, of course). He didn't; only with his head start and my lame ass shifting, I was so not expecting the race! That guy is probably on his S4 forum probably boasting how he kept up with a ZTT, although he has no idea! The moral of the story: Everyone dogs on the Stock TT's capability. People don't think it has a chance with Supras and other, it does if you drive right with just about anything (it lags a little in the low end against torque monsters but once rolling it has potential), anyway I came back pretty decently given his upgraded exhaust (that was no stock S4 exhaust) and what sounded like an intake (you could hear the air being sucked in, and I've never heard an S4 do that trick). And I even did this with my old in age stock clutch, almost bald rear tires and unready and not maximizing shifting at all in my seven year old, bare bones stock TT! Feels good to know that you drive a superstar, a Z, no matter NA or TT! Peace,
