Message did a little wiring work this weekend. fun pics of that later. short of the story, i was re-running the wires for my AVC-R. my Z came with the Apexi gizmo when i bought it, and i've never really messed with the install until now.

i found a big blob of black tape just behind the disconnect harness, and figured it could use a clean-up job. so i peeled the tape of to find that...

... dum dum DUUUM...

the wires for my AVC-R were **twisted together** and taped up. the wires that i'm depending on to protect me from overboosting, and from literally blowing the engine apart at the seams, are joined only by a casual interwining and the gooeyness of aging electricians tape. you can see that the blue one actually disconnected just from peeling the tape off. the HORROR.

needless to say, they are now soldered, wrapped in shrink tubing, and neatly zip-tied away.

the morals of today's story are:

1) do your own work.

2) it is better to buy an un-modded Z.

3) always peek under suspicious-looking tape.

4) if you're not sure what you're doing, find someone who is to help you, rather than ghetto-rig a nice car.

5) do your own work.

now i need to stop thinking about this for awhile. it makes me queasy...
