She was driving her 1999 Ford Explorer Limited. Our baby (16 months old) was in his child seat in back. She doesn't remember what happened, but somehow hit the curb, went over it, ran into a light pole, then into a tree... then flipped over. I was at home and got a call from her saying she was just in a terrible accident and that Zachary (my son) was okay. She gave me the location and hung up crying. I drove as fast as my Z would go (too bad it's not a TT) and got there in 5 minutes. What I saw horrified me. There were two fire trucks, two ambulances and three cop cars. As I came up on the scene I saw the Explorer turned upside down with all the windows smashed out. It looked like the roof was caved in all the way to the top of the doors. Since I learned of this from my wife's phone call, I knew she was okay... and she said Zachary was okay... but if it were a cop that called, I would have thought that they would be dead. It was one of the worst looking accidents I've seen. I'm glad we went to Church this morning! (But even if we didn't, I know that God is looking after us.) We just got back from the Emergency Room (9:25 PM). It's so great to hold my wife and son. My wife is all bloody, but nothing broken. My son doesn't have a scratch on him. He was in the child seat hanging upside down and a good samaritan ran over and pulled the whole seat out of the car with him in it. Tomorrow we collect personal items from the vehicle, contact health insurance and car insurance companies, and schedule a doctor appointment for Zachary just as a precautionary step. Then we'll be in the market for another vehicle. I spent about a year and a half trying to talk my wife out of buying an SUV (before she bought it) but she didn't want to listen to my reasoning. I think our next car will be a Volvo or a BMW 5 series. Thanks for letting me vent, I'm in shock... but VERY thankful to the Lord for taking care of my family.
