I definitely prefer a stiff chassis. I've never seen a modern race car that uses chassis flex to improve handling, so that is the basis for my point of view. I would guess that the strut tower flex is increasing camber gain during cornering. That's my guess as to why lack of a bar is decreasing understeer. It would seem that increasing static camber would provide a similar effect, while allowing you to use the STB and keep a stiff chassis.
