Message The low-end response will suffer very slightly, but the mid range and top-end will benefit dramatically.

Not sure if I would agree with slightly and dramatically but I will say if you are more focused on a responsive car the 400+ is the right choice. If you are more focused on a top end, 1/4 mile type car the 500 cam is more ideal. There is no right answer for everyone, but I'll take a torque curve that is shifted to the left (these cams basically shift the torque curve right or left, left = more responsive while right = better top end).

I think compression numbers on cars with both cams say a lot about the profile in so far as overlap and flow.

My car with the 400+ cams gets 160 psi compression on the best couple cylinders and no less than 150 using an 8.5:1 AshSPEC design custom weisco piston set. Ash with the same pistons (although different head work) and the 500 cams gets 135 (and granted his car seems to be plenty responsive from his dynos posted here - but I attribute that to most of his other drivetrain lightening).

I would be very interested to see if this is a freak case or if all 500 cam cars see similar compression numbers.

Again these low numbers aren't necessarily bad, they just help to demonstrate the cam's purpose, and it is NOT designed to make for an extremely responsive car.

I don't doubt they flow better at the extreme high end of the RPM range, but I will take the more responsive car anyday.

Again, this should be an interesting year and as you and I and many other get their cars finished and tuned. Then, we can look at plenty of dyno charts and make better real world, concrete assessments.

I have some fuel issues I am trying to work out on my car but hope to get those resolved and post some decent pump gas dyno charts in the near future. Then later, tuning with pump + water injection and finally race gas with water injection.

Are you getting in on the water injection kit group buy scott?
