So I got nothing going on and a friend of a friend says he just won an old Mercedes 300D on eBay and would I mind going to help his parents pick it up and pay for it while he stays behind? Two and a half hours later we're in Princeton, NJ. Car supposedly mechanically "perfect." Car looks good from ten feet, a little rough but I tell him if it runs good it's worth the $1500. SO, the owner comes out and starts it. Sounds too loud, but it's a diesel and owner says it's been sitting. Starts to develop a knock. We pop the hood. The crank pulley has the worst wobble I've ever seen on a running car. The belts look like there about to jump out of the car. Engine knock getting louder by the moment. I turn to the parents and tell them to tell the guy thank you very much, but the car will not make it 20 miles down the road. Owner wants $200 deposit from eBay. I tell everyone (there were five of us) to get in the car and let's go. Thus ends my first eBay car experience. The car was a rotted lemon. My friend says he has bought three decent cars on eBay. This was not one of them. Weird.
