and people just got used to it. As far as the oil companies go, It just isn't that cheap to get oil out of the ground. I was in midland during the time gas was less than a buck and people were going out of business left and right. My almost father in law was millions in debt because they were getting almost less per barrel than production costs. School districts that are already underfunded were losing millions in taxes from the oil producers. Yes opec is to blame because they are screwing with free market economics with price fixing and gov taxes and regulations make it hard for domestic producers. The fact is gas prices will go up until it becomes prohibitive for most people to buy gas. If gas gets cheap like everybody wants it to then producers and refineries will go out of business and prices will go up anyway. we all want cheap gas but theres 2 sides to every coin ya know? I say if prices go up, at least less people will drive = less traffic. maybe less suv's on the road too.
