Durability and power. I have extensive experience with 700R-4's (same basic transmission as 4L60E, but with manual controls, no electronics.) The OD autos take more power to turn, and they are usually much less durable than the 3-speed th350s and th400s. The lockup isn't bulletproof either, in my opinion. I had a 700R-4 in my Camaro, but I'm getting ready to go to a th400, after having rebuilt the 700R-4 three times, and finally breaking some hard part inside it, from fatigue I suppose. After the last break I haven't even ventured inside the tranny to see what's wrong.
