Message	I see what you are looking at - it is like sanding marks or something. College boy is quite the anal perfectionist, if there was this weird lookign protrusion in the IC, you can bet he would be none too happy and would NOT be making this "look how awesome my new AshSPEC Massive ICs are" post. But, I DO see what you are saying and had I not seen these IC's myself, I probably would have thought something was seriously wrong as you did from that picture alone.
