Message I had been toying with the idea of putting the cloth 350Z seats into my Z for some time now. Well, given the big open space under the hood of my car, I figured this was as good a time as any to make it happen. The seats are comfortable, and hold you in much better than our stock leather or cloth seats. I've driven on the track a 400RWHP Z33TT with a harness bar and stock seats - I was floored at how well I was kept in place. Plus, I figured it'd be cool to keep with the Nissan theme. =)

Given that, I picked up some near-perfect used seats from a local friend who tracks his hardtop SC'd 350Z. If you follow Sport Compact Car, his Z was featured in it early last year. Anyway, come to find out that there isn't all that much modification needed to fit these into a Z32. We still have the seats out until the roll bar is done at the powdercoater. I'll have installed-pictures soon.

I'm not thrilled to show this dirty picture, but happy to report that the Z33 seat saved over 20# compared to the electric Z32 seat:

There is one of my Z33 seats with my always joking and rocking friend and welder, Dan Gallmeister of DGR Fabrication ([ http://www.dgrfabrication.com/ ])

Dan is also heading up the bending, welding, and installation of my custom roll bar. I discussed this a few days ago here: [ http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1735541 ]

I decided on 1.75" OD with .120" wall thickness ERW mild steel. After talking with more track people about material selection, I found out that most run the ERW material, not the DOM. With me in the car, it weighs about 3490#, so I decided against the 2" OD material. If I ever decide to race as a hobby, the roll bar can easily be removed and replaced/added onto with 2" material and a full cage.

We tried to be as aggressive as possible with the height of the cross bar, leaving just enough room for padding. The seats have full forward and rearward mobility, unlike some of the other kits out there. Note the date - what a good way to spend Valentine's day, eh? =)

I'll have more pictures of the installed and powdercoated product next week, so sit tight. =)

Thanks for looking,
SS

You keep driving Laguna Seca with a video game - I'll drive the corkscrew in my 12 year old Z.
