a car with balls. No valets for me, no dealers for me unless I can stay with the car. Anyway, I suggest a personal visit to the highest person at the dealership, the owner if possible. If the car was in for diagnostics, I don't understand the test drive, period. What you are asking for is called 'indemnification' or to be made whole for your loss. In other words, not to worry about book values or insurance ratings. What you want is exactly what you had. They can either give you cash to accomplish that or provide an equivelant vehicle, INCLUDING the modifications. Let them know up front you just want to walk away in the exact financial position you were when they screwed up. If they balk too much, suggest they let the insurance pay what they will, and the dealer make you whole with cash out of his pocket. You don't care where the $ comes from, you just want to be made whole. And yes, use that phrase a lot. It sounds lawyer like. Good luck!
