value of $8500. Carmax will offe you 60% to 70 of the retail value and give you a song and dance why its a good deal. I used to sell Nissan/Honda/Mazda at a mega dealership. Rarely, did a customer get a good trade in price, the few who did, negociated for several hours or I went to bat for them and worked it out the next day. Rather than play the customer, I played the management in favor of the customer. Get the best deal and close the customer at a lower commission for myself, sell more cars and make more $$$ and bonus too. Not easy to do, the customer has to be willing to work with ya. [ http://kbb.com ] has 3 values, Retail/car dealer, wholesale/trade in, and Consumer to consumer values. I always list my car at the Retail/dealer value, screw the dealer markup and costs associated with running a biz. I've bought and over 2 dozen cars that needed restoring or had minor engine trouble and only a couple of potential buyers ever debated the retail consumer prices. If they know good for them, if you get a fair price, great for you.
