| There isn't really just one specific set of things that go wrong with a high-performance Z32. It ranges from little things like blown vacuum lines on the fuel pressure regulator destroying a $15K engine, all the way up to a major name-brand valvetrain manufacturer getting their mettalurgy screwed up and destroying a $25K engine. Going through my 6 P's in the auto-faq is a really good exercise to ensure that 90% of the issues are covered. Installing a fuel pressure gauge and a coolant temperature gauge (one that is more visible and preferably with a warning for overtemp) will save you an engine for relatively low cost. If the car just doesn't seem right, somehing acting different, it is time to figure it out as this is how bigger problems manifest themselves. Just "riding it out" or thinking that the little bug will fix itself is a sure fire mix for catastrophe. What kind of service maintenance schedule did Z1 outline for you on this build? That's where I would start.
