Message upgraded Z. I think most would agree with that. There are always gonna be the fanatics who don't mind spending a bit more $$ and changing the oil/filter more frequently..citing that it's "cheap insurance"...

To each his own...but we all know that really is just "overkill"..it's not helping the motor wear any slower than a motor that gets regular oil changes at the Factory Designated Intervals...with synthetic,no less.

I've owned about 4 VW GTi's and I used to use synthetic in each one...(this was in the mid to late '80s when people thought you were crazy for spending 3-4 bucks on a quart of oil)...I changed my oil in those VDubs around every 15K miles and just topped them off in between....each one's motor was in excellent condition when they were sold...did'nt check the compression but they blew NO smoke and were just as peppy as all the newer stuff...

Now granted, they were'nt putting out crazy HP like the Z's are but they held together under constant abuse from street driving and from x-crossing....

That's the cool thing about a slower car...It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.....you could hammer these things all day and not get into too much trouble...they just did'nt cover ground like the Z's do but they were a blast to drive..

Knowing that today's Japanese reliability is 10 times better than yesteryears VW reliability...I feel safe in saying that the VG30DETT motor is completely safe (yes, even at elevated HP levels) with synthetic oil and regular changes around 5K miles.

We're all entitled to our opinions and that is mine.

Rob
