| that will shed some light on the whole theory from back at the Detroit Grand prix I knew somebody who was a crewchief on a second tier car that was practicing for his race ..... he came into the pits and was elated at how well his car was working and his practice times backed him up ... just .5 seconds off of the fastest car in his class. his crew chief then told him he was going to 'dial in' just a little understeer and was was astounded say "no don't do that this car has never felt this neutral ever!" his chief then explained he would be able to get on the throttle a little sooner which might give him the .5 seconds he needed ...... he got .7 seconds faster in qualifying just because he had a little understeer and could throttle out of the corner earlier
