Message Today was the "9-finger fab day". Yesterday morning while building some components for a customer, I laid some damage to my right index finger - a trip to the emergency room and few stitches later I'm running 90%. Well, probably 95% with the pain killers in action. :) I just took the day off yesterday and collected myself..

Got caught up on the customer work today and felt good enough to keep at it. I received the 2.5" louvered pipes on friday and went to work on the muffler guts.

The louvered tubes are just tack welded to the main y-pipe section as I plan to play around with the direction that the louvers point. I didn't want to have to continue building the y-pipe section each time I Wanted to make a change.

I also perforated the Y-pipe section to aid in additional silencing of the exhaust note and used a punch to somewhat louver them and help guide the pulses into the packing medium.

In the last picture you can see that I have the louvered pipes installed with the louvers running in two different directions. I only did this on one muffler and made the other muffler with both pipe's louvers pointing the same way.

I am going to pickup a decibel meter from the local ratshack and play around with seeing what kind of sound level differences I get from the mufflers in various configurations of the internals.

Tomorrow I will be picking up a box of stainless steel mesh sponges that are used in the restaurant business to clean cookware and try them out as the insulating packing. I'll probably also pickup some fiberglass insulation from Home depot as well as try and locate some stainless steel screen mesh. Should be pretty fun to play around with various configs as well as be able to totally gut them on the dyno to see what kind of power differences there are.

All that's really left now is about an hour worth of work and getting the registration/insurance taken care of and she's ready to roll up to the dyno. :)
