I have just heard too many horror stories of machinists working on engines and one of the main reasons I am doing the conversion rather than just buying a TT is because I get to have all the fun of actually doing this stuff. I havent built a car engine before - rebuilt tons of race motorcycle engines though. Not much difference here but a few extra cylinders. I know it will be done right whereas a machine shop is pressed for one very important thing that I get to take as much of as I need - TIME. And the more of it you have, the better it will be. You wont overlook the piston to bore clearance issue like I almost did. As for the balancing, the piston/rod combination weighs the same after the piston swap, I made sure of that..Gonna give Nissan a call here in the next half hour to get those pistons and ring set ordered. : the short block. That's what I did. They are the experts and have the proper measuring instruments. Also they can balance the bottom end to zero grams . Unless you want a vibration free balanced motor have a reputable machine shop do it.
