Message The first sentence about efficency islands I never agrred with or even knew what you were talking about and never made sence in the course of the discussion.
And your second sentence was totally wrong.

You contradict yourself (you say they may slant more not simply shift) in a post above.

I think that VE is not a constant over the RPM band (although most places I see it expressed as a constant) because at lower flow rates (rpms) you would see NA engines able to achive closer to 100% VE and as the revs get higher that would start to taper off (inability to overcome intake flow restrictions to completely fill the cylinder with the same number of O2) because TIME is smaller. Using THAT logic a "higher" VE engine with smaller displacement could create the same power at some certain RPM as a lower one but the two would not have identical power curves at all as the larger displacement lower VE engine will make more power lower in its RPM range and the smaller engine may make more power up top as the amount of time to fill the cylinder with O2 is lessened. These are pretty simple concepts, but, to me, it seems VE is much more complex than a simple percentage number. Unfortunaly, all I have said so far only really makes sence on NA engines, with FI by definition you are forcing more air (O2) into the engine so the VE will be greater than 100% anytime you are into a significant enough boost to overcome the flow restrictions. So VE is litterlally all over the board as boost and vaccum jump around.

The short of it is I appreciate your input here because if you we're giving input I doubt anyone else would. And I have thought about it for more than 3 seconds, I at least that much I hope you can agree with me on.
