Argon gas is the shielding gas most commonly used w/ welding. How thick is the tubing? If it's relatively thin, there's a good reason for the shielding gas inside. When welding the outside of thinner materials, the heat will rapidly transfer to the inside, and can also cause the metal on the inner surface to start to pool (aka melt). This is bad because oxygen has a chance to get into the liquid metal, hence causing the material to corrode from the inside out. So, if in doubt, hook up a 2nd line from the tank w/ a valve on it so that you flow some of the argon through the tube also.
