Message Hi,

I can't tell from your pics if the outer edges of the tires were also worn down. It looks like they are. When I had a camber-induced tire problem, the tires actually looked beveled. The tire was flat and square on the outer edge, then at the inner edge there was a stark angle worn in, like a 3 inch wide bevel. The tread at the outer edge was almost pristine.

Your tires look (as far as I can tell) like they wore much more evenly; as if the entire tread wore down, but just a little more quickly at the inner edge. Sort of the opposite of my tennis shoes...

If this is the case, your tire damage was probably caused by toe problems. The tires scrub along the ground every foot instead of rolling freely. Setting toe farther from zero is counter-intuitive...but...

When your car is rolling, extra play in the bushings allows the tires to change toe. If you now have more "static toe in" then under power your car might have dynamic toe closer to zero.

(Personally, I think the Z has fairly tight bushings, especially compared to a domestic car. So I would not have guessed that the toe was the problem seeing only the alignment sheet. I bring this up because of what your mechanic told you, and what I *think* I see in your pic. You don't have bad wheel bearings do you?)

Also, I take it the problem only occured in your front tires? I don't have any useful insights whether this is true or false, but you might specify in case others would like to help you.

- John
