So he can get away with that time after time. As for the automatics, neutral dropping is still not a good idea. What we do is power brake with higher stall torque converters. Basically that means we can hold the brake (and e-brake) at the same time while giving the car gas. In my case, I have a 3,800RPM stall so as I'm holding the brakes, I'll give it gas up to about 3,000RPM and just as the lights turn yellow I floor it. The RPMs will shoot up to about 3,800RPM, I'll make about 8-10psi of boost and as the green hits I let go of both brakes and wham. It's more of a slingshot effect than anything and quite different from a 5-speed.
