you can easily buy the "correct" offset and still end up with a wheel that catches the caliper. My 18" Kasais were the proper offset but due to the spoke structure, they still caught the front calipers. The ONLY way to know if a wheel will fit properly on our cars or not is by finding someone who already has the wheel in question on their car. Otherwise if you go with something untried, you are simply rolling the dice. That being said a 5mm spacer isnt the end of the world, I havent experienced any drawbacks from having a H&R 5mm spacer on my front wheels and I have done two track days on them.
