Message Philips retrofit kit. The output is bright & very usable and regularly gets compliments from passengers. It is dramatically better then stock out put, esp. in the rain. I don't recall getting "blipped" by on coming traffic so that tells me that it's not a issue for them.

To me the bottom line is this - the results vs. cost and ease of install FAR out weight any reservations about "less then optimal" performance.

I don't buy into the idea that retrofitting optics into our housings is needed or even desirable - I've seen it tried and wasn't impressed w. the results. You have to remember that the outer glass lens also has an effect on the light output - changing the location/size/etc of the internal optics in relation to it is simply "best guess" engineering by any "full retrofit" company. Nissan spent considerable amount of time & money in getting the projectors & external lens to work well together - at the time of introduction our cars almost got pop up headlights like the Z31 had IF the projectors and housings could not have been produced - Ichikoh developed all new glass manufacturing processes just to get it to work.

Furthermore the 1999 HIDs are admittedly nice to look @ but if you're not willing to cut them open (I know its hard to swallow after spending $1700 for the lights) and correct them for LHD use then you're getting the same (if not worse) "less then optimal results". I've seen them in use and having a beam pattern that tappers off to the right and blinds on the left is far more obnoxious to on coming traffic then the Philips kit I've been using.

IMHO a Philips kit can be had for $400ish, spend the difference on suspension or brakes or whatever else, you'll see a better return on investment then paying for someone to cut apart your housings or for a piece of chrome plated plastic in your headlight.
