Well, after setting my speed limiter back to 300+ MPH up from the 96 MPH I had it set to, I was able to complete some 4th gear pulls today. My goal was *not* to get the absolute maximum power possible but rather something that would be completely safe to run all day long if needed on 91 pump fuel. The program I started with was far too lean in the midrange and at 1 bar didn't hit 11.5 until about 5000 RPMs. I really felt like it should be doing that closer to 3600 RPMs which is about 400 RPMs past maximum boost. The result is that the midrange is not quite as moundy as some of the other sport 500 dynos where we seep peak hp coming around 5500 RPMs rather than 6500. I have no doubt that had I left the stock JWT program in place, peak power would have been higher and earlier. The first pull was at .97 bar(14.25 psi). Peak hp was 386.1 but there is a little spike after a dip. However, judging by the higher boost pulls where I went further, hp was still building on the lower boost run by the time I let it out. AFR goes down to 11.5 by 3600 RPMs and eventually down to 11.4. The last two pulls were at 1.1 bar (16.17 psi). The highest one peaked at 411 rwhp with the spike at the end removed. AFR goes down to 11.2 by 3600 RPMs and eventually down to 11.1. My goal was 400+ at the wheels while being super safe for ca 91 fuel. The chart below doesn't yet have AFR on it because I logged it with my LM-1. When I get the data file for the dyno, I'll overlay and sycnronize the two in excel
Given that this was done with cats on 91 pump fuel with a very safe AFR at only 16 psi, I'm fairly thrilled with the result. I've seen many sport500 dynos do less with more boost and leaner AFRs. Interestingly, my middle run looks identical to this one right down to the shape of the torque curve: La-Z-Link except that mine made 10 more rwhp with 1 psi less.
Other notes: there was no hint of pinging. One of the dyno operators was right next to the engine carefully listening. He said if there'd been any pinging he would have heard it. Coolant ranged between 178 an 185. The 185F came about 20 seconds after the last pull. In between pulls, it took about 3 minutes for the coolant temperature to go from 183 back down to 178, so I don't think I was stressing it very much. So now the real question is: 1) I haven't had the nerve to try more boost on pump gas. Is 16 psi on 91 fuel the most on Sport500s with my mod list? Should I try 17? 2) How much boost can I run on 100 octane and what could I expect to dyno? I see these crazy dyno results where people are running 23 PSI on their Sport500s. Isn't that way out of the efficiency area of the compressor map?
