Message	hard enough to slowly dent it... I'm not whaling on it... =) And it really seals around the outside more than the inside... (well it does seal on the inside, but further back along the crank where the spring holds it tight, which to be honest would be hard to slip and scratch THAT far back unless you're really trying, or really careless... has never happened to me).
