Message The plating process that Ash is using is a simple one step process. Nickle plating alone is not very durable and will break down rather quickly if not protected. And even then it's shine will break down and require polishing to bring it back to life. For durability you would want to copper plate then nickel plate and then chrome plate. I'm plating stuff too (not nuts and bolts) but in chrome with a simple one step chrome process which is called "copy chrome". Copy chrome is tougher than nickel plating, keeps it's shine just like chrome, and has a hint of blue which makes it an inexpensive alternative to show quality triple plated chrome (thats the three step process I just explained) and because it's a one step process it can be done quickly and you also don't have to worry to much about fumes like you would when triple plating. Nickel plating alone is not something you want to do for show and it's not something you want to do over a wide range of auto parts in an engine bay unless you just want to waist time and money. But thats JMO. It looks good when you first do it but later, not.
