Message I spent yesterday (Saturday) tearing down my donor TT motor and decided to take some pics along the way. For those who have done this before, I have a question for you at the bottom regarding two plugs in the block.

I didn't have the camera handy when I started so unfortunately I wasn't able to capture some of the early progress. With this pic you can see I already removed the accessories, intake plenum & manifold, and the timing belt & pulleys.

Removing this sucker was the most challenging part by far. A little heat from the torch, a couple pry bars, and a hammer to shock it loose finally did the trick:

I'm replacing the oil pump so I wasn't concerned about scratching or even cracking it. No cracks, but definitely scratched up!:

Cam covers removed:

One head removed:

Both heads removed:

A look at some of the engine damage. The oil pan lost a fight with the steering rack, and I believe the oil cooler fitting got up close and personal with what was left of the motor mount. It was originally bent downward (visible in a previous pic), but I started to remove it before I decided to take a picture of it:

The dent in the oil pan was deep enough to dent (and bend) the pickup:

A look at the underside with the main-bearing cradle removed (bearings look fine for 120k miles):

Pistons (rod bearings look good as well):

Crankshaft removed (tip, remove the rear main seal plate BEFORE bolting the engine to the stand):

Gutted block. The oil squirters and splash shields were removed as well, but I didn't grab of pic:

All done and ready for a trip to the machine shop:

One shelving arrangement packed full of VG30DETT parts:

OK, for those who have been down this road before, I have a question for you. Did you remove these two plugs before dropping your block off to be hot tanked? Both of these appear to be glued in place. I can remove them but was curious if you'd recommend just leaving them in place:
