Message Mostly for "future" reference...

If you really want to have that type of stereo in a Z you should adhere to the following::

#1, remove the faceplate from the headunit, and store it somewhere OTHER than on the radio. Then the guy has no idea what you have exactly, you could have a top of the line deck, or the el cheapo removal face unit... if there is some uncertainty, he might not bother...

#2, have the amps mounted in a more remote location, i.e. under the seats or something... unless you had a HUGE AMP they'll fit. I had a PPI 450 under my passenger seat and it fit fine others have said they stored the in the open recess area behind the seats & in front of the rear wheels behind interior trim... if the thief can't see them, he has no idea you have them... and having a "cover panel" as you did doesn't count... unless it looks like it was there when the car was made, it won't fool a thief... Simply being "similar" in color doesn't count... it needs to look factory...

#3, tint you vehicle, at least to what the state law allows... having dark tint makes it all the more difficult to see into, especially at night! It also helps protect the interior from UV fading! And don't get metallic or platinum, or whatever hell other color they have that looks nastier than crap... just go get smoke tint (35%, 50%, 20%, whatever the state allows) by a professional shop. Most shops give a lifetime nationwide warranty on their tint from bubbling, and other defects!

#4, consider having less of a "box" next time... nothing screams "STEAL ME" other than a huge out of place box just "laying" in the truck that isn't secured down or attempted to be blend in. If the insurance company pays out for all of this, consider getting a JL Audio Stealth Box, or maybe on of the members boxes that they sell here on the forum. Granted it is only normally a single 10", but you really don't need much more... a properly setup 10" sub puts off more than enough bass to fill the audio properly... anything more is an annoyance to everyone around you when you drive and is only hurting your own ear drums in the long run. Eventually you'll have to keep turning it up more and more just to hear/feel the lower tones, and eventually, you won't hear them at all! =( With one of those, you'll also get general use of your trunk back, you know to store things, like bags, t-tops, something... other than just the sub box...

#5,lastly, get a damn alarm! Even a cheap one... as long as the horn honks and it isn't easily disabled... also make sure they don't just stick it right at your feet, just out of sight... if you can touch it with your hand easily, so can the thief... and it takes two seconds for him to rip it ouf ot he car, disabling it and the horn... now if won't stop the guy completely from breaking into your car just seeing a "flashing" light... but if it starts to bring attention to the car by the horn blaring, he'll consider running after it starts going off... also, having an alarm on the car gets you an insurance discount! And its piece of mind. It isn't much, but hey. And if you can get one with the ignition disable, or with an ignition disable system (which requires insearching a key into a sensor or waiving it past to start the car).

These are only suggestions, but you might want to seriously consider them... you have a nice Z, and pretty much a Zs, even in stock form grab attention... you have nice Volk Wheels to top things off, bringing even more attention!

And as far as the trunk... he didn't break in through the trunk or anything (from some of the other posts it looked like you thought he somehow found a way into the car from the bacK) More thna likely he walked over, broke the window, opened the door, tried to grab the headunit to no avail, decided to abandon that idea, popped the trunk at the release, grabbed the hatch by the spoiler and lifted HARD, grabbed the amp and subbox, knocking the trunk cover out of place (hence it hanging like that) and took off.

Sorry again to hear about all your misfortune, but its only parts and money... at least he didn't take your wheels or the whole car as others have already pointed out. Best luck with the insurance company and having everything put back to normal!
