Static compression is the theoretical calculated compression of a cylinder given the volume at BDC vs. TDC. As an example, Dee's measured compression numbers (effective compression) are lower than Rob's due to the fact that Dee has upgraded cams, but Dee and Rob have the same 8.5:1 static compression wiseco pistons (unless they were built with something different, which I am not aware of).
