That is commendable and I'm sure most here would agree. However, the dealership is not the place to have this done.

somewhere along the line, "nissan 300ZX" and "nissan
service department" made a crazy connection in my head upon which i deduced that one such department is most likely designed to fix the claimed car. crazy logic, ain't it?

It IS crazy logic for this reason: The Z is very hard to work on and has not been in production in this country for 10 years. Most dealership techs have never even seen one, much less know how to work on them. Especially for a major repair such as yours. Given the stories posted here, you should have know this would have been the case. This is the WHOLE reason I started DIY'ing in the first place.
