Message	some cylinders when not necessary, so called "displacement on demand (DOD)." The computers of that era were not up to the task of managing the engine, and it was discontinued. The new models that are being released by Chrysler and GM have ECU's that compute 25X faster, have 50 times the computing power and 100 times the memory of the 1981 Cadillac system.
