Message :I came across this device last night while searching for signal conditioners to use with the thermocouples installed into Dee's car. We are using "K-Type" thermocouples and Honeywell self-amplified pressure sensors for use in collecting data on turbocharger efficiency as well as intercooler efficiency.
:The K-type thermocouple has a very small and narrow signal output of 4mV to 40mV based on the temperature of the probe tip. This is too small of a signal voltage to really get a good analog to digital conversion with any degree of resolution. A signal conditioner is a device that amplifies the output of such devices (thermocouples, strain gauges, pressure sensors, etc etc) so that the signal output is much higher in voltage and covers a wider band.
:I found this little guy last night in my search and ordered one of them to use in our testing tomorrow on the dyno.
:
:TWO PROGRAMMABLE AMPLIFIERS :SELECTABLE GAINS OF 1,10,100,1000 :ONLY ONE 5 VOLT 100 MA SUPPLY REQUIRED :HIGH IMPEDANCE DIFFERENTIAL INPUTS :OUTPUTS GREATER THAN +/- 10 VOLTS :EXCITATION OUTPUT OF 4.096 VOLTS :+/- 15 VOLT POWER SUPPLY OUTPUTS :USES BURR BROWN/TI PGA 204 AMPLIFIERS :TTL COMPATIBLE GAIN SELECTS :COMPATIBLE WITH LABJACK FOR CONTROL :USED TO AMPLIFY AND CONDITION SIGNAL FOR DATA ACQUISITION PURPOSES :APPLICATIONS INCLUDE THERMOCOUPLE, STRAIN GAUGE, AND MICROPHONE AMPLIFIERS :LOW COST OF $99

:I spent an hour on the phone yesterday calling various companies that sell signal conditioners, and most of them wanted from $150-$300 per unit and they were only single channel devices. Considering this guy is only $99, I think it is one heck of a deal.
