Message in those cylinders although there could be. The things to check if a cylinder is suspect is if it has a higher compression than the other cylinders and if there is a buildup of carbon deposits. The later being something that you might want to check anyway because carbon deposits can cause a higher compression if valves are not effected. The cause of the detonation is due to heat (which I know you know). Such things as lean fuel mixtures and too advanced timing are the main things to watch out for. I suggested checking the knock sensor (which helps to protect against detonation) at the ECU but a better way to make sure the complete system is working correctly is to use a timing light and while viewing the timing simulate a knock by using a metal bar placeing one end close to the knock sensor area and hitting the other end with a hammer (safely of course, and I believe you already know all this so this is mainly for others that don't) and you should see the timing retard. Like I said before, any cylinder can detonate given the circumstances. It could be just that "that" cylinder just happened to reach the critical temperature and detonated. Another thing is that I know a lot of people like to do the EGR bypass mod but may not know how it can help by keeping it. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) also helps to cool down the amount of heat generated in a cylinder due to its function. If the limits are pushed in tuning (no matter what that may be) the risk of something happening is going to go up. I think a lot of people here will agree that you are an aggressive "tuner" and some may be fine with that because thats what they want. IMO, I would rather lose a few HP than my engine. Our cars have great potential for high HP gains with a few mods. But no matter what is done there is a limit and that crave for power will get you if not careful.
