Message still has to flow to the back of the engine before it cools that area of the block/heads. Also, the upper radiator pipe on the engine is attached to the front of the heads and it promotes more flow through the frontal cylinders. The rear of the engine has got to run hotter even with a ported gallery.

As for the injector, my only suspicion with it is that it isn't flowing as much fuel as the others, causing the cylinder to run lean, and promoting detonation on that cylinder only. The fuel injector will have no effect what-so-ever on the lubrication system of the rod bearing though. If the injector were stuck open, it could wash the cylinder wall down and contaminate the oil, but that would have affected all of the bearing surfaces, not just #4.

As for lack of lubrication, again, all of the bearings would have suffered some significant degree of wear if this were the case, as well as showing signs of thermal stress since the oil also cools the journals.

But definately, I am glad that we didn't get to the point of catastrophic failure, but I still have my fingers crossed on the whole thing. Dee is fully aware of the fact that this may not fix the problem and we will just have to thoroughly check everything and see what happens.
