Super Street Garrett Article Also attached is an overlay of the now infamous comp. maps. Timo didn't mention that the surge line and testing points are omitted on the new map, also a good reason to keep the original. From: Trevisani, Timo [mailto:Timo.Trevisani@Honeywell.com] Sent: Friday, October 21, 2005 12:15 PM To: Ridgeway, Dee A Subject: RE: GT28RS turbo - disco potato Dee, here is what I found out regarding your question: When we re-designed the website we also re-ran some of the maps for specific turbos, one of them was the GT28RS. The difference between the 2 maps is that the new one (on our website) was only run up to a pressure ratio of about 2.5, while the old one was run to more than 3. In addition, the new one has a higher resolution, i.e. more efficient lines than the old version. There are some differences between the 2, and the map from our website should be the one to use. The reason why the new map does not show higher pressure ratios is because the efficiency will drop drastically above a pressure ratio of 2.5 and you will start overspeeding the turbo. I mentioned your plan of running 28psi to our engineers and we would not recommend to go above that number (at the turbo, not at the manifold, if you have an intercooler) . If you do, you will most likely not see much HP improvement since your backpressure is likely to go up quickly. In addition, you will risk leaking oil past the seals of the turbo shaft as they are designed to work best at a certain turbo speed. If you do operate in this area, the old map can still be used to give you an indication where you would be on the efficiency islands. Thank you for your question, though, I will definitely ask our distributors to use the map on our website to stay consistent. I hope I answered all your questions, if not, please feel free to contact me. Thanks. Timo Honeywell Timo Trevisani Sales Manager North America Garrett Performance Products, Independent Aftermarket
