| - He should have the title, even if there is a lien on it. I have financed 2 cars, I have the titles for both. It is VERY dangerous to give the guy money for the car without getting the title from him. At least get a signed bill of sale. - If you finance this car with your bank, the entire problem goes away. Your bank negotiates with his bank, pays the car off directly with them, you don't have to worry about anything. As a matter of fact, maybe you can discuss the situation with his bank and make an arrangement where you pay them directly for everything and you get the lien removed immediately. - It will probably be a month before he gets the lien taken off the title. You should pick up the car when you pay the FIRST half. If he wants to wait a month, tell him to get a personal loan to pay off his bank. - Not only should you take the car with you when you pay the first half, but should you make him go to the DMV with you to get the car registered in your name. If it's stolen or something he probably won't want to go to the DMV with you. - This is a common situation, but it's also a good way to get scammed. Good luck.
