| I got my new skins from tire rack yesterday and took them to the shop for mounting today. I took them off the car myself because I can't trust the jamokes to use the proper 21 mm socket - I made the mistake once and now have scapes inside the nut recess on my rims. I do business locally when I can, but as you know buying low profile Z rated tires from the local shop isn't a sane decision since they just order tire rack and double the price. So anyway I called the shop and was told dismount, mount, balance - 4 for $45. OK. So drop them off and when I go to pick them up and the bill is $79 with a notation of "special wheel". HUH? I asked the clerk what's up and he tells me since the tires weren't purchased from them special pricing applies. Well I pitched a fit! Pointed out that I had called and been quoted $45 for d/m/b, etc, then handing him my card and said enjoy the extra $34 - it was the last dollar he'd see from me. The clerk start in with an excuse about needing to charge more since if they bust a bead they can't go to the rack to replace it. Now's he's really got my worked up with his lame excuse and I ask him if he'd prefer to dismount the new tires put the old ones back on so I could take them across the street (literally) to another tire shop where I could have the work done without getting gouged? At this point all the other customers are heading for the door... so the clerk decides to cut his losses and says in a voice loud enough to be heard that he'd honor the $45 price. He should have taken the $34, it isn't the first time this place has tried to chisel my wallet and it IS the last dollar I'll spend there. I don't know if you guys have had the same experience - but word to the wise - be explicit when you talk to a tire shop about mounting "your" tires. Oh, and I don't want to flame any particular shop - but the place I'll not go back to rhymes with "Les Schwab"...
