| some things with my Z. First I've been silent cuz alot has been going on with my work ( which isn't good ) for a while now..... among some other issues . That has set me back on my TT build cuz monies had to be deverted elsewhere. :( That being said I did get to install a custom "one off" rear battery box today that my X brother in law ( we are still like brothers ) made for me. A few months ago Danny ( X bro n law) came over the house and when we were in the garage he was admiring my Z. How could he not! LOL! Anyway when he saw my secondary battery box in my spare tire compartment he about died. He said " How can you have such a show quality Z with such a "GETTO" battery box. I told him i was gonna see if he could weld up some polished diamond plate and he said "STILL GETTO"!!!!! Danny by trade works with aluminum at his own biz making patterns and molds out of aluminum. He said "Let me make you a custom molded in stlye box". What could I say????? NO????? So we started brainstorming and came up with making a false floor in the bottom of the spare tire pan and mold in the battery box! Heres the process in pictures... This what the HOLE looked like under the carpet and my subs!
This was the setup that dropped thru.
Danny said cut the floorpan out and we'll make a custom fit aluminum one
 Dan filing the finishing touches
This is the powdercoated molded aluminum pan. It has some "legs" under it that catch the lip we left on the original pan. Notice the outer egde ...it is custom fit to the pattern of the pan.
Now the black box slides down from the top and this blue "ring" goes up under the car to secure, sandwich the pan lip and seal the box in place. The other pieces are the battery hold down strap and posts.
This is how it fits together from the bottow view.
Look at that fit around the edges. Danny is a real craftsman!
 This is the battery installed
The battery terminals are a full 3/4" under the board (that is under the carpet).
This is what the plate and box look like from the bottom veiw installed.

And now there is No visible trace of the battery hangin down.
Anyway Dan did this as favor to me!!!!!!!!I owe him BIG Time!!!! What a great friend! He said he was having a blast doing this instead of the same old crap from work! Glad I married my ex......Dan was well worth it!!! ;) Anyway, this setup is for my 2nd battery for my stereo system but this could be used for a rear placement of the battery for weight transfer for all you Z racers?!?!?!?! If anyone wants to contact Dan let me know...in fact since he can make custom parts we are talking about trying to come up with some stuff to market for cars and bikes. Who knows.... And Coz......I'll call you this week.... I owe you ;)
TT Conversion ON HOLD!!!! VERY VERY VERY SLOW but sure! (real expensive too!) |
