| I'm doing a pcv relocate on my intake valve covers. I selected the smallest hose barb fitting that I could get away with. I couldn't find anyone that sells a drill bit big enough for the threaded fitting, nor a tap big enough. So I took it to zfever. Anyone not living in a cave in tampa (FL even) knows zfever's shady reputation, but I figured something small as this is hard to disappoint someone with. It came to $57. When I showed sticker shock he said "well I had to go buy a tap big enough for the job, that costed $30, then theres the time involved and it comes to $57". I said "that's like charging $1000 to change a tire because you had to go buy a tire seperating machine". I honestly can't be TOO mad at him. It's 100% my fault for not asking for an estimate beforehand. I didn't ask for an estimate because I couldn't see it costing more than $20. It's like a big silly business game with specialty mechanic shops, you have to know how to play. If you never get an estimate it's like open season on your wallet. But on the other hand, I just bought him a brand new tool for his shop that he can use again and again. And, for all I know he might've lied and already had the tool onhand. And, for all I know, he could return the tool now and get his money back since its not likely he will ever use it again.
