was it a truck or SUV? I still think you can easily prove it. If you know what vehicle it is, there is obviously your paint on it. Simple analysis can determine a match in paint. Did you explain to the officer how you know who did it? That wasn't enough proof for him to ask the person? I don't have any advise on dealing with the insurance company. I haven't gone through them for anything yet. You've already taken pictures, thats a good start. Do you have poloroids though (not digital). This way, if they low ball you, you have hard copies (just in case they claim your pictures were photoshoped). I keep a disposable camara (plus the camara phone for hit and runs). Good luck, sounds like you had a lazy cop that wanted to avoid confrontation though.
