Message The "dump fuel" trick was meant to be additive to pulling timing. I agree with your comments regarding establishing A/F first. What I am saying is that once A/F is dialed in and timing is adjusted, take the additional step of running a little richer at the point where you heard the ping. The extra shot of fuel absorbs heat - same as water injection - but more reliably.

Quoting Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost": "...a turbo engine offers the freedom to run slightly richer mixtures than with a normally aspirated engine, permitting the extra fuel to act a bit like a liquid intercooler...."

Also here is what Corky Bell has to say about water injection:
"The water injector is not a very interesting device. It has little place in a properly conceived turbo system....A water injector on a turbo car is a poor excuse band-aid for not doing the job correctly the first time."

He goes on, "...Do not allow a situation to exist where the water injector is used as an excuse for improper air/fuel ratios. All things considered, you would be far ahead never to have heard of a water injector...."
