In Reply To Anyone use a Colder type 7 Plug in their TT? I was just posted by 1990Turboz on August 06, 2005 at 08:25 PM

Message available in the 7 heat range. The last B denotes an extra extension, made exclusively for the 300ZXTT. I just talked to NGK yesterday in search of the 7, and the tech said it is not available in the US, it may be available in Japan, he wasn't sure. There is alot of differing opinions as to how important it is to have that extra shrouded length on the plug, that places the spark in the center of the combustion chamber. I am going to try a PFR7B (same as the 7 NA plug but gapped at .032 instead of .044) for a high boost (30 + lbs) 280ZXT. I am going to stick to the PFR6B-11B because of the benefits of where the plug is situated in the combustion chamber. Alot of local gus in L.A. use the Iridium series plugs (8 and 9 heat range) with excellent results at the track. The main problem seems to be that they stop being able to fire a high density charge after a few trips to the strip. These Iridiums are the same reach as the NA plugs. Their NGK stock #s are: BKR8EIX or BKR9EIX depending on what heat range you desire. I didn't check your profile, so I don't know what kind of set up you have. The principle behind a "colder" plug is that with each # heat range you go up (colder), it supposedly removes over 100 degrees F out of the combustion chamber. In "the old days" these plugs would "load up" under normal driving conditions and have to be changed frequently. I don't know if that's still the case. However, as Ash stated, you have a problem that needs to be addressed that a colder plug probably isn't going to fix, and he stated that they will be apt to foul. Fix the root problem and then play around with a colder plug. Take care, Mark
