Message engine. If you bring the RPM up to around 1500 and mildly free-rev it to about 2500, back and forth, you'll hear the rattle on the up-rev. You will need to be standing over the engine when you do this in order to hear it clearly. The rattle isn't a high-pitch "clack", it is a little lower in frequency, but not as low as a rod knock.

With all of the other noise going on within the engine, I think it would be very difficult to actually get a sound recording of it. It is a more faint sound than rod knock or lifter tick and takes a trained ear to really hear it (trained, as in, someone pointed out the sound and identified it for you already). Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to find someone who knows the sounds of the VG and let them listen to it.
